Press release
End of the Strike at Camping Rivière-Ouelle : An agreement paves the way for a better working climate.

9 July 2026

The workers at Camping Rivière-Ouelle, represented by the Service Employees Union (SEU800), returned to work on July 7, 2026, following the approval by 87% of members of the employer’s latest offer.

This acceptance brings an end to more than a month of strike action, which took place in a context marked by a deteriorating work environment, concerns related to subcontracting, and challenging negotiations surrounding the unit’s first collective agreement.

An Agreement that lays the foundation for the future

In addition to wage improvements, the parties have agreed to establish clearer guidelines regarding the use of subcontracting, a key issue for members during this first round of collective bargaining.

The agreement also includes commitments aimed at fostering a healthier, more respectful work environment and promoting lasting collaboration within the organization.

“Members are satisfied. This first collective agreement addresses several issues that were important to them. They are returning to work with the hope that the commitments made will truly translate into their day-to-day reality and that we can finally restore a healthier work environment. However, some matters will continue to be addressed through the appropriate channels,” said Frédéric Morin, UES800 union advisor.

Ongoing matters

Although the labour dispute has now ended, several matters remain before the appropriate authorities. Among them are two complaints challenging terminations of employment that have not yet been resolved. The individuals concerned maintain that they were dismissed, while the employer claims that they resigned.

The union is also awaiting the findings of an investigation by the Ministry of Labour. At the request of UES800, an investigator visited Camping Rivière-Ouelle after members observed several individuals performing tasks normally carried out by striking employees during the dispute. The investigation aims to determine whether the employer violated the provisions of the Labour Code regarding the use of replacement workers.

Thank you to citizens and campers

The members wish to thank the campers, the residents of Rivière-Ouelle, and everyone who showed them understanding and support throughout the dispute. They now hope to turn the page and work with the employer to build a healthier and more respectful work environment.

SEU800 also recognizes the solidarity demonstrated by workers throughout this first round of negotiations and hopes that this agreement marks the beginning of a more constructive labour relationship with the employer.
