The new collective agreement for the members of the Royal Quebec Golf Club (services)

5 April 2023

Following the general assembly of March 21st, the members have accepted by a large majority the agreement in principle reached the negotiation table.

The primary issue for the union during these negotiations was the employer’s use of a subcontractor. This subcontractor provided kitchen services for special events and tournaments and customer service for its production.

‘’The consequences were major for the income of the servers. These would be reduced by about 60% since they would no longer have access to tips during these special events and tournaments. It was unthinkable for the union to accept this situation! Fortunately, the negotiating committee proposed to the employer to increase the wages of all kitchen employees by $4/hour, which was accepted. This is a major gain for the members,” explained Pierre Forgues, union representative.

The laundry and busboy positions also received a salary catch-up in the first year of the collective agreement.

In addition, the new contract includes wage increases between 2.5% and 3% for the next two years of the agreement, reinforcement of the existing subcontracting clause, a shoe allowance’s increase at $200, an increase in the employer’s contribution to the Solidarity Fund of 2%, as well as a maximum tip compensation of up to $150 for tournaments and special events for more than 50 participants.

The new 3-year collective agreement will be sent to members in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Martin L’Heureux, France Fréchette and Roberto Blouin for their excellent work!
