Overtime converted to time off for SEU trades
5 February 2014
Bargaining with McGill (trades) resumed on January 23. The university presented its proposal relating to hours of work covering each of the 4 trades bargaining units. After discussions, the parties ratified these articles and it was agreed that the university would modify the letter of agreement to be presented for ratification at the meeting of January 31.
The university and the union also discussed their respective interests and concerns about the possibility for employees to convert overtime into time off, and with respect to the mechanisms relating to when and how this time off may be taken. The university submitted a proposal which was discussed by the parties. The union presented a counter-proposal which is under review by the university. Discussions on this matter were to be pursued at the January 31 meeting.
The 4 bargaining units involved in these negotiations are employees from trades and from powerhouse downtown, and employees from trades and from powerhouse Macdonald campus, represented by SEU, local 800 (Service Employees Union, local section 800, affiliated with the Quebec Labour Federation).
