In many workplaces, group insurance is negotiated with the employer, who is then responsible for administering the plan. This is the case for many 800 members working in industries, services and commerce, as well as in the education sector.
But in the building service sector, the reality is different.
Members work for many different employers and most are covered by one of the decrees governing the building service sector.
Many years ago, this raised an important question: how could building service members also have access to group insurance coverage, regardless of the employer they work for?
A plan created by our members, for our members
The solution was to establish a group insurance plan for which UES800 is the policyholder and administrator.
This approach gives eligible building service members access to the same group insurance plan, even if they work for different employers.
The objective is simple: to provide members and their families with financial protection against certain significant expenses or loss of income that may result from illness, an accident or another unexpected event.
Protection for different realities of life
Over the years, the plan has evolved to provide members with a range of benefits, including:
- Life insurance
- Accidental death and dismemberment insurance (AD&D)
- Health insurance
- Dental care
- Disability insurance
- Travel insurance
Certain benefits and conditions vary depending on each member’s situation and the terms of the plan.
A plan that evolves with our members
Since its creation, the plan has been modified several times. Laws change. Health care costs evolve. New needs emerge. Our coverage must therefore also adapt to the realities of our members. This is what allows the plan to be improved over time and to continue meeting the needs of workers in the building service sector.
The direction of the plan is determined by UES 800 with the participation of a group insurance committee, and changes to the plan are submitted to the members concerned for approval.
Insurance worth knowing… and using
Having group insurance is one thing. Knowing what it covers and making full use of it is another.
