On September 24, members working at IPL St-Damien organized a large family celebration to mark 50 years of union membership with the Service Employees Union, Local 800 (SEU800). The first collective agreement for IPL employees who were members of the SEU800 was negotiated in 1973. Following the 1986 split between SEU800 and Sqees 298, IPL members chose to remain with SEU800 .

Nearly 250 people attended the event and enjoyed a traditional roast feast, inflatable games, and temporary tattoos that delighted the children.

Marie Deschênes, Executive Vice-President of SEU800, and Alain Larouche, Union Representative, took the opportunity to express how honored UES800 has been to represent the members for the past 50 years. They also thanked the members for their continued involvement and commitment.

Frédéric Morin, President of the Executive Committee, also addressed the attendees. He thanked the ten presidents who have led the bargaining unit over the past five decades and expressed his pride in representing IPL employees. He also recognized Alain Larouche for his dedicated service over the past 25 years as the unit’s union representative.

Several regional labour leaders were also in attendance, including Sébastien Campana, President of the QFL Québec–Chaudière-Appalaches Regional Council, and Annick Sévigny from the QFL Solidarity Fund.

The organizing committee for the 50th anniversary would like to thank the many sponsors whose support made this celebration possible.

Thank you to the 50th Anniversary Organizing Committee!
