Ancien Pensionnat Côte-Saint-Paul impacted by the aftermath of the Saint-Paul Church fire
2 March 2026
A message of solidarity to our members impacted by the fire that occurred last Friday night at Saint-Paul Church.
Images of the historic church engulfed in flames deeply shook the neighbourhood. Beyond the heritage building itself, it is a place of memory, services, and community life that has been profoundly affected.
The Ancien Pensionnat Côte-Saint-Paul, an intermediate resource welcoming seniors experiencing a loss of autonomy, was also impacted by the consequences of the fire. These residents, who are sufficiently autonomous not to require long-term care placement, had to be evacuated urgently.
Fortunately, everyone was safely relocated with the assistance of the Red Cross to a secure location. However, several residents lost personal belongings, particularly those living on the upper two floors, which were heavily affected by the water used to extinguish the fire at the neighbouring church.
Unit president Luz Rangel Vasquez expressed:
“Everyone is safe, and we are currently settling into our new temporary premises while we wait to see what will happen next.”
Our members were also affected by this situation. All are safe and have resumed supporting residents who have been temporarily relocated to Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal. In such challenging circumstances, their professionalism, composure, and dedication deserve to be recognized.
On behalf of the entire organization, we wish to express our sincere support. We are thinking of you and of the people you care for every day, and we remain available to assist you with any concerns or repercussions this event may have on your living and working environments.
Take care.
In solidarity,
UES 800 Leadership
