Celebrating the Essential Role of Social Delegates!
14 February 2025
On this Social Delegates Appreciation Day, the FTQ wishes to celebrate a unique network of solidarity and mutual aid within the union.
The FTQ’s social delegates play a crucial yet highly demanding role. No matter the time of year, they are always there for their colleagues, demonstrating their generosity and unwavering support. On this Social Delegates Appreciation Day, the FTQ wishes to celebrate a unique network of solidarity and mutual aid within the union.
“February 14 is Valentine’s Day, a celebration of love and candlelit dinners. But for the FTQ, this day holds another important meaning! From the bottom of our hearts, we thank our social delegates for their dedication. They are always there to support their colleagues in difficult times, and today, it’s our turn to be there for them and recognize everything they do for us,” says FTQ General Secretary Denis Bolduc.
The year 2024 was anything but easy—it was marked by major labour disputes, including a strike at Canada Post and lockouts at the ports of Montreal and Quebec. 2025 has started under a cloud of chaos and uncertainty with the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump and his threats of tariffs, putting hundreds of thousands of jobs in Quebec and Canada at risk.
“Through all these challenges, social delegates have been there. They have listened to their colleagues in the most difficult moments and offered unwavering support, never passing judgment. They have lifted spirits on picket lines, prepared holiday food baskets, attended training sessions, and participated in awareness campaigns. This shows the incredible kindness and dedication they bring to their role, and it’s important that we take the time to acknowledge their efforts and let them know their work does not go unnoticed,” adds Denis Bolduc.
Take a moment today to say a special THANK YOU to your social delegates for their invaluable work, generosity, dedication, and ability to listen without judgment.
