19 September 2023

Under the theme “The past in mind, the future in our hands,” some 275 people gathered on September 15-16-17 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Pointe-Claire to take part in the 11th SEU 800 Convention.

During the event, a number of topics were addressed by the various speakers, including the environment, mobilization, integration and francization of foreign workers. Delegates were also treated to a presentation by Mélanie Busby of the Front sur la transition énergétique, as well as a performance by humorist Boucar Diouf, who brought a breath of fresh air to the discussions.

In addition, participants had the chance to hear Magali Picard, President of the FTQ, Mary Kay Henry, President of SEIU, and Sylvie Nelson, President of SQEES 298, all delivering rallying and mobilizing speeches.

This 11th Convention was also an opportunity to make changes to the Union’s bylaws and to take a stand on the orientations that will guide the future of SEU 800. The Convention concluded with the election of the 30 members representing the General Council, the auditor and the members of management, Cristina Cabral (President), Marie Deschênes (Executive Vice-President) and Claude St-Marseille (Administration Vice-President).

“Our convention was a great success. We’re really pleased to have finally been able to get together to discuss such important issues and identify our priorities for union action,” reports Cristina Cabral, President of the SEU 800.

The SEU 800 would also like to thank its sponsors for contributing to the event.
