Press release
The Common Front takes note of the Quebec government’s new offer

27 March 2023

Montreal, March 27, 2023. – In the context of the public sector negotiations, the member organizations of the Common Front (CSN, CSQ, FTQ, APTS) take note of the new offer of the Quebec government, presented by the Treasury Board at the negotiating table today.

The Common Front will study this new offer – which clarifies the previous one – before making any other comment and reiterates that it is ready to negotiate at all times in order to reach a settlement that is both a win-win situation for the population of Quebec and for the 420,000 workers it represents in health and social services, education and higher education.

The Common Front also reminds us that in order to have a complete picture of this new government proposal, we will have to wait to see the content of the sectoral deposits that will be presented to the different tables in the coming weeks.

The countdown has begun

Remember that the public sector collective agreements will end in 5 days, on March 31, 2023. The Common Front will hold a large rally at the Quebec City Convention Centre on March 30 th to underline this deadline.

In order to revalue public sector jobs, the Common Front is calling for a permanent mechanism to protect against inflation and enrichment aimed at catching up on wages. Thus, for the year 2023, the Common Front is calling for $100 per week or the Consumer Price Index (CPI) +2% (depending on which formula is more advantageous), for 2024, the CPI +3% and, finally, for 2025, the CPI +4%.

Statistics to better understand the stakes of this negotiation

  • Salary backlog: -11.9% ;
  • Overall compensation backlog: -3.9%;
