International Women’s Rights Day: March 8, 2023
8 March 2023
For several years now, March 8 has been recognized as “International Women’s Rights Day“. It is an opportunity to acknowledge and highlight, on a global scale, the social, economic, cultural and political accomplishments of women. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the progress made in achieving gender equality and the work that remains to be done in this respect.
To mark this day, the ”Collectif 8 mars” (of which the FTQ is a part) pays tribute to women under the theme ”Feminist Resistances”.
The SEU 800 counts several militant women among its members who devote themselves every day to protecting the rights of thousands of women. We are proud of this and we take the commitment to continue to fight with these women, for fairer and safer workplaces for us all!

This year’s visual was created by artist Marin Blanc. The theme is a slogan like a rallying song, a call to struggle, words chanted by our foremothers, our sisters, and our allies, shouted in the streets, pasted on the walls, whispered in our intimacies, felt deep inside ourselves. A slogan made of our diversities, fed by our anger, nourished by our sisterhood. This is not a time for division. It is not a time for negotiation. This is not a muted time. It is serious. The climate emergency, the polarizations, the privatizations, the erosion of women’s rights, the increase of violence against us, the exacerbation of inequalities, the rise of racism, the unabashed sexism, and the assumed hate. A slogan as evidence. Love is an act of resistance.
