June 15 – International Day housekeeping attendants
12 June 2020
Today more than ever, in a pandemic, the work of housekeepers must be highlighted. Everyone wants to work in a clean environment, but few people think of thanking the workers who ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of workplaces day after day.
Since the start of the pandemic, these workers have been fighting the invisible enemy and contributing significantly to the recovery from this public health crisis. This is why the SEU 800 is pressuring the Minister of Labor to grant a bonus to housekeepers working in risky environments, such as health establishments for example. In addition, the SEU800 requests that this risk premium be added to the Decrees on maintenance personnel of public buildings in the Montreal and Quebec regions permanently. According to the SIU, this risk premium is a mark of recognition for their essential work.
Housekeepers are entitled to respect and our esteem. International Housekeepers’ Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of the work they do.
Today, when you see a housekeeping attendant, take the time to thank them!
