Delta Saguenay’s workers accept their employer’s enhanced offer

20 June 2014

Saguenay, June 20th 2014 – During a general assembly last night, the employees of the Delta Saguenay hotel, members of the Service Employees Union, Local 800 (SEU 800) and affiliated with the FTQ, accepted their employer’s offer with a 74% majority.

A last-minute negotiation meeting occurred on Wednesday, June 18th and brought the parties closer together. The initial offer comprised a 2.5% salary increase per year over three years. The agreement in principle endorsed by SEU 800’s members provides an increase of $1.00 the first year and of 4.5% per year over the following four years. Employees receiving tips will receive a salary increase of $0.25 the first year and of $0.10 in the last year.

Pressure means had been triggered after the general assembly on June 11th. Workers were unsatisfied with the employer’s offer after five months of negotiation. “The solidarity and persistence of SEU 800’s members were fruitful. I would like to thank the members of the negotiation committee for their work. However, we must consider tonight’s results and realize that there is much work left,” said Sébastien Boies, a union representative.

SEU 800 represents over twenty thousand members in various sectors such as building maintenance, educational support, manufacturing (clothing, textile, plastic, metal, wood, cardboard, milk products, etc.), hotel trade and catering, commerce, financial institutions and many others
