Discussions with McGill (trades) on proposed appointment of technical support

16 June 2014

The parties met on June 12 and, as agreed at the previous meeting, the university proposed the text of a letter of agreement concerning technical support roles.  Based on comments made by the union at the previous meeting, the university also submitted a modified document concerning the required qualifying skills and abilities for one of the technical support roles. This new text was agreed to by the union.

Concerning the letter of agreement, the union expressed some concerns and suggested some changes. The university took these into consideration and came back with a proposed modified text. The union was satisfied with the text, but the parties were unable to reach an agreement on which trades would be included in these proposed technical support roles. This topic will be included on the agenda of the first meeting to take place in the fall, on September 24.

The 4 bargaining units involved in these negotiations are employees from trades and from powerhouse downtown, and employees from trades and from powerhouse Macdonald campus, represented by SEU, local 800 (Service Employees Union, local section 800, affiliated with the Quebec Labour Federation).
