McGill and SEU (facilities) ratify several articles

30 May 2014

On May 12, the parties had two topics on the agenda: the review and signature of several text adjustments agreed to in previous meetings and the possibility of lowering the minimum duration of a deferred salary leave.

Text adjustments to twelve articles and letters of agreement were reviewed and ratified by the parties. The union did not give its final approval on the article modifying the reference year. Further verifications will be done to confirm the relevance of applying the new reference period in every article where the term is used in the collective agreement.

The union presented a proposal concerning the minimum length of a deferred salary leave. The objectives  and feasibility of this demand were discussed and it was agreed that, considering Canada’s income tax act, this reduction may be difficult to apply. Some further verifications will be done and if the information gathered by the parties is confirmed, the union’s request will be withdrawn. The next meeting is scheduled for September 3.

The 3 bargaining units in question are: computing centre, printing services and facilities management/residences/Faculty Club, represented by SEU (Service Employees Union, local section 800, affiliated with the Quebec Labour Federation).
