Talks with McGill (trades) on hours of work for building operators

5 December 2013

Following the union’s request to better understand the fluctuating number of service calls for building operators, the university submitted data to the union on the number of calls received during each hour of the day.

The university also pursued its explanations concerning the advantages of starting the work day at the same time for certain trade groups. The parties summed up the current situation on the working hours of all groups covered by the three collective agreements, with the exception of Athletics.  Several options were discussed and the parties agreed to make some improvements to the current work schedules.  The parties will finalize these discussions by addressing the issue of schedules in Athletics at the next meeting, set for December 3.

The 4 bargaining units involved in these negotiations are employees from trades and from powerhouse downtown, and employees from trades and from powerhouse Macdonald campus, represented by SEU, local 800 (Service Employees Union, local section 800, affiliated with the Quebec Labour Federation).
